Stephanie Abrams

Stephanie AbramsSince distinguishing herself while reporting live during the historic 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons, meteorologist Stephanie Abrams continues to cover significant storms firsthand for The Weather Channel.

A well-recognized face in the mornings on The Weather Channel, she co-hosts with Al Roker on Wake Up With Al weekday mornings from 6 - 7 a.m. ET.  The lively morning show mixes the day's forecast along with top news stories and celebrity interviews. She also joins Mike Bettes on Your Weather Today from 7- 10 a.m. ET.

Interests & Hobbies

College football, traveling, playing tennis, reading and learning. As for my music interests, I love all types of music. I'm not really into one genre, but like a little of each (it's like musical tapas). There's Rob Thomas (and/or Matchbox 20), Regina Spektor, Gavin Degraw, Celiene Dion, Billy Joel and Elton John. There's also anything from the Beatles to Barry Manilow to the Carpenters and the 80's (so fun!) Then there's the country side of things... who doesn't love "Broken Road" by Rascall Flatts and "You'll think of me," by Keith Urban? I also love to shake it to a little "Boom, Boom, Pow" but the Black Eyed Peas and love, love anything by Justin Timberlake (including his skits on SNL). There's also theater, I just recently saw "Jersey Boys" and I thought it was fantastic and I got a taste of "Rock of Ages" on the TODAY show one morning and it was great!

Why did you choose Meteorology?

I grew up in South Florida. Hurricane Andrew left a lasting impression on me. On that day, I became interested in knowing how hurricanes formed. Seeing the destruction the storm caused has stayed with me since I was young. When I got to the University of Florida, I took a Meteorology class and loved it. It was the only subject that had me excited and wanting more. It was challenging, interesting and constantly changing. After one semester, I was hooked on the science!
