Jen Carfagno is an on-camera meteorologist and can be seen weekday mornings on The Weather Channel (TWC) during First Outlook from 4-6 a.m. ET.
Jen earned her bachelor's degree in meteorology from Pennsylvania State University, and later joined The Weather Channel full time in 1997, after acceptance into the network's summer internship program. Jen first participated in the on-camera meteorologist apprentice program at TWC, earning time in front of the camera every weekend. In addition to her on-air assignments, Jen gained valuable weather knowledge and experience from several key positions in the Meteorology departments.
During that time, Jen was the liaison for the Meteorology Science & Strategy Department to several other business units. She also was the point person for TWC's tactical operations with the National Weather Service, the EPA AIRNow program and other related government agencies. Jen developed and led Weather Camps around the country for TWC and continues to speak to students about a passion of hers - science. On a lighter note, Jen is also the wedding weather expert, blogging and answering viewer questions online.
In her spare time, Jen enjoys running, relaxing at the beach or working in the yard. On sunny days, Jen likes to spend time outdoors with her family. When it rains, Jen enjoys cleaning (really!), reading and planning her next vacation. She loves to travel and would like to visit all 50 states the old-fashioned way - by U.S. Highway.
Jen lives in Atlanta, GA with her husband and two children.

Interests & Hobbies
I like spending time outside with my husband and daughter, either taking walks or working in the yard. I love to take pictures and create digital scrapbooks. I think running is the best way to clear your mind.
Why did you choose Meteorology?
Unlike most meteorologists, it was not just one big weather event that piqued my interest in weather. I love clouds and thought it would be cool to be a pilot. I watched a lot of The Weather Channel and was really good at math. All of these things pointed me to study Meteorology at Penn State. I had to keep a close eye on the sky as a lifeguard in the summers during high school, and I even had a sling psychrometer to measure the dew point at the pool where I worked!
