Alexandra Steele

Alexandra Steele is a co-host of the nightly program on The Weather Channel, Weather Center, which airs Monday through Friday nights starting at 7 p.m. ET.

Previously, Steele had been the on-camera meteorologist for four years on Good Morning Washington at WJLA-TV, the ABC affiliate in Washington, D.C., where she was also seen on the evening newscast.

Prior to working at the ABC affiliate in Washington, D.C., Steele served for three years as an on-camera forecaster for WTNH-TV, the ABC affiliate in New Haven, CT.

Previous experience also includes three years as a forecaster and reporter at WRNN-TV in Kingston, NY. Steele's television background extends behind the camera as well. She has worked in the London and New York bureaus of ABC News for both Good Morning America and PrimeTime Live.

A native of Albany, NY, Steele attended undergraduate school at Brown University where she obtained a bachelor's degree in the history of art and architecture. She went on to earn a master's degree at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Chicago. Her meteorology studies were completed at various universities in Connecticut including Fairfield University and Western Connecticut State University. Steele also earned a Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society.

Interests & Hobbies

Living in the south, I play a lot of golf in my free time. Although, with the recent birth of my first child, I think my golf bag may take a backseat and be usurped by a diaper bag.
As for my musical interests, I love music of all kinds! One of my favorite country bands is Sugarland. I also love to listen to show tunes-I love the music of Andrew Lloyd Weber. There are a few less mainsteam singers I really like as well. One guy named Remy Shand, his music is brilliant and he has such a cool sound. Another is a singer named Melissa Errico. She is actually Patrick McEnroe's wife and she has the most beautiful voice. Those are just a few of the musicians I currently have revolving on my iPod.

Why did you choose Meteorology?

I chose weather as a career because I have always found it compelling. It has kept me engaged and interested for 15 years. But, today, more than ever, I am fascinated by it. The evolving climate coupled with the increased fascination by the public and our ever expanding bank of knowledge has me more captivated than ever.
