The Weather Channel has announced a new ad-supported version of its popular mobile weather application for the Android platform, now available on the Android Market and V CAST Apps from Verizon Wireless.
The Weather Channel for Android now includes a new user interface (UI), international language support and integration of TWC's iWitness Weather resource. The app will offer additional new features, including TruPoint maps and near-HD quality videos, through the end of 2011 exclusively for Verizon Wireless customers with 4G LTE smartphones who download it from V CAST Apps.
Ranked as the No. 1, most downloaded weather app and one of the top free apps available on the Android Market, The Weather Channel for Android 3.2 app adds new features to improve functionality for consumers using any Android smartphone:
Verizon Wireless customers with select 4G LTE smartphones (currently Thunderbolt by HTC and Samsung Droid Charge) who download the app from V CAST Apps will receive two additional new features - near-HD quality videos and animated TruPoint maps. Patented TruPoint technology from TWC provides detailed weather conditions accurate up to 2 kilometers, or every 1.5 miles, making it the most accurate local weather information available. The exclusive feature offers TruPoint radar, temperature and cloud maps with forecasts up to 6 hours in the future. In addition, photos and videos submitted to iWitness Weather via the Verizon Wireless 4G-optimized app will be highlighted within the TWC for Android app and on weather.com.
The Weather Channel for Android 3.2 still includes the content and features consumers have come to expect, such as fully customizable weather maps, animated radar maps, detailed weather conditions and forecasts, severe weather alerts, and a notification bar with the current temperature and severe weather alert indicator. It still offers the "find me" function that allows consumers to get weather forecasts for their pinpointed location or search by city, ZIP code, street address or landmark. Customers can decide to display layers such as radar, clouds, UV index, rainfall and more.
The Weather Channel for Android app is available free to consumers from the Android Market on any Android device. Verizon Wireless customers with 4G LTE smartphones can download the app with exclusive features from V CAST Apps mobile storefront.
