Liz Wilson Thorington Joins The Weather ChannelThe Weather Channel Companies (TWCC) has announced that Liz Wilson Thorington has been named vice president, ad sales/southern region.

Thorington will be responsible for overseeing ad sales across broadcast, online, mobile, and tablet apps in the southern region, further developing a truly cross-platform ad sales team for TWCC.

She reports to Chris Raleigh, senior vice president, cable and cross-platform sales, TWCC. “Liz is uniquely qualified for this role,” said Raleigh. “She not only brings a wealth of cross-platform ad sales experience to our team, but she has strong relationships with our agency and client partners in Atlanta and the entire southeast region.”

Prior to joining TWCC, Thorington served as global director, multimedia sales/southeast and Central America for The Wall Street Journal and The Wall Street Journal’s Digital Networks (WSJDN). There, her responsibilities included the integration and management of the sales organization representing the WSJ Franchise. 

Previously, Thorington was employed by Time Inc. (Time Warner ), managing southeast ad sales for Golf Magazine and Money Magazine, along with their digital counterparts. Before that, she oversaw the southern division for 3M/Media Networks (MNI), assisting in its transition to a Time Warner Company in 1997.

Among her affiliations, Thorington served for 20 years on The Magazine Advertising Representatives of the South (MARS) board, twice as president; was a member of the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation (Rhodes Hall) board; and currently serves as a board member of the RED & BLACK, The University of Georgia’s independent college newspaper, for which she chaired the building of its permanent residence in Athens, GA in 2001.

In 1997, Thorington co-founded the SAMMY Awards (Southeast Award for Magazine Excellence), an awards event that attracted national advertising attention to southeast advertising agencies for nine years. While always employed by global media companies, Thorington has spent her entire career based in Atlanta. She, her husband Tom, and their three daughters, when not at college, reside in Atlanta.
