The Weather Channel Companies have announced that George Callard has been named senior vice president of legal and business affairs.
In this newly created role, Callard will provide legal and business strategy, support and counsel to the internal team responsible for the distribution of TWCC's content via cable, satellite and telecommunications operators and distributed content partners. He will be based in TWCC's Atlanta headquarters and report to Jennifer Dangar, executive vice president of distribution and business development.
"Adding a seasoned attorney like George to our team will help us grow and improve our relationships with our content distributions partners, who continue to look to us for weather content solutions across all platforms," said Dangar.
Callard joins TWCC from NBC Universal where he served as vice president of legal and business affairs, responsible for all legal matters affecting delivery and distribution of NBCU content. This included serving as lead counsel for Olympics, Bravo, Oxygen and NBC Network retransmission consent.
Previously Callard had two tenures with AT&T (SBC & Ameritech), most recently as senior counsel supporting development and rollout of IPTV and broadband video services. Earlier in his career he served as counsel and assistant secretary. Callard also served as senior counsel at the law firm Cinnamon Mueller and associate counsel for Multimedia Cablevision.
Callard received his JD from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and has a MA from the University of Cincinnati and a BA from Union College. A native of Cincinnati, Callard is relocating to Atlanta from New Jersey with his family.
