David Shipps Joins The Weather Channel as SVP of Business and Alternative Revenue Development

The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC) has announced David Shipps has been named senior vice president of business and alternative revenue development.

In this newly created role, Shipps will oversee all aspects of domestic and international business development while seeking new revenue opportunities on all consumer platforms and devices.  Additionally, he will work with strategic partners to maximize new revenue for existing TWCC products and content.  Shipps will report to Jennifer Dangar, executive vice president of distribution, business development and marketing for TWCC.

"He will work to create opportunities to diversify and grow unique revenue streams designed to support our long-term strategies in the evolving media space."

Shipps joins TWCC from Cox Media Group where he was responsible for DealSwarm, the online daily deal business launched in cities nationwide.  Previously, Shipps was vice president of consumer sales and marketing at EarthLink in Atlanta.  At EarthLink, Shipps also served as a director and eventually vice president of sales and business development.

Prior to EarthLink, Shipps was vice president of business development for comScore, Inc., an online research and analytics firm, and for InfoSpace, an online and mobile content services company. 

Shipps holds a master's degree in business administration from Goizueta Business School at Emory University in Atlanta and a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, where he currently serves as a Trustee.
