Sky News Reporter Alex Crawford Wins Women in Film and Television AwardSky News Special Correspondent, Alex Crawford, has been named winner of the BBC News and Factual Award at the Sky 3D Women in Film & Television Awards ceremony in London.

Alex who is based in Sky News’ Dubai bureau won the prestigious award for her fearless reporting from some of the world’s most inhospitable regions, with some of the most dangerous people, and often in threatening circumstances.

Over the past 12 months, multi-award winning journalist and mother of four, Alex, has reported from the flood crisis in Pakistan, come under fire during riots in Thailand, reported from inside the Taliban and other insurgent groups fighting British troops in Afghanistan, and climbed to the base camp of Mount Everest to illustrate climate change.

In September, Alex negotiated unprecedented access to Taliban fighters in Afghanistan and filmed exclusive reports for Sky News: Inside the Taliban – which saw her embark on a dangerous mission into the Taliban heartland of Kunar Province. In her reports, Alex met the children of the Taliban to see how the next generation is becoming radicalised, and spoke to the would-be deserters – members of the insurgency who want to lay down their weapons, but can’t due to the threat of retribution.

BBC News presenter Jane Hill, presented the award, describing Alex as “a fiercely intrepid foreign news correspondent….unstoppable in gaining access and lifting the lid on some of the world's most difficult issues.”

Head of Sky News, John Ryley, said of the win; ”Alex is a very courageous journalist and thanks to her bravery the British public are able to see and understand stories that otherwise wouldn’t be bought to their attention.”

Alex Crawford is based in Dubai as Sky News' Special Correspondent reporting from the Gulf and the Middle East, and working in partnership with Sky’s Chief Correspondent, Stuart Ramsay, to cover Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Alex picked up the prize at the Women in Film & TV Awards ceremony hosted by Julie Walters at the Park Lane Hilton, London on 03 December.
