Sky News Launches ‘Politicos Top Trumps’ for 2010 Party Conference Season

Sky NewsThe polls have the two brothers neck and neck for the Labour Party leadership but when it comes to winning over the ladies, David Miliband has a clear lead.

In the latest edition of Top Trumps – Politicos launched today by Sky News, Miliband Snr is the second most fanciable politician in the pack. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton fell for David’s charms and so did our panel scoring him 18 points ahead of his younger brother, Ed. (David scores 95/100, Ed 77/100)

No danger of a coalition split between Cameron and Clegg though, as both of them scored 80/100. Power might be an aphrodisiac but they’re still 20 points behind the most attractive man in the pack, Zac Goldsmith. The millionaire and new MP for Richmond Park scored a lady-killing 100/100.

Political careers are never more than a few waves away from a shipwreck so for the first time we’ve provided our Politicos with a storm warning, the lower the score the better.  Scores range from a tranquil 1/50 for the Prime Minister to a sinking of the Titanic 50/50 for his colleague David Davis. Also going nuclear over the Strategic Defence Review and Trident renewal is the Defence Secretary, Liam Fox, with a storm rating of 40 – the highest in the Cabinet.

On a more positive note, we looked at MPs’ potential. Top marks to the Prime Minister who scores 10/10 and no sibling rivalry here for the Miliband brothers who both score 9/10.

Adam Boulton, Sky News Political Editor, said: “Sky News is delighted to launch this year’s Politicos Top Trumps for the 2010 party conference season.  Picking the top 30 Politicos was a tough task this year with two parties in power, five Labour leadership candidates and the biggest influx of new MPs for 65 years.”

Politicos Top Trumps is a specially-produced card game which has proved a big hit with (most) MPs and party activists in previous years. It features 30 of the country’s most influential politicians and scores them against five categories – judged by a panel of leading political journalists.  Joining Adam Boulton on the judging panel were Michael White (The Guardian), Quentin Letts (The Daily Mail), Sophy Ridge (The News of the World), Paul Waugh (The Evening Standard), Julia Hartley-Brewer (The Sunday Express), Iain Dale (Iain Dale’s Diary) and Katie Snape (Sky News).
