Off Air Business Channels

Off Air business channels are stations which broadcast exclusively business news that have either ceased to exist entirely, or that have merged with other channels and/or companies to form entirely new channels or to bolster an already broadcasting channel.  We are constantly researching former channels and add to this page, and the subsequent channel pages regularly.  If you have any information which you think could be useful to us, please contact us.

Asia Business News

Asia Business News (ABN) was a business news channel by Dow Jones and Company. It was founded in 1993 and it was based in Singapore. In 1998, the channel merged with NBC's CNBC Asia with most of ABN's programmes and presenters migrating to the new channel as well. The merged channel was initially named CNBC Asia Business News but in June 1998 it was simply referred to as CNBC Asia. Since the merger, CNBC Asia has been operating from ABN's former headquarters in Singapore.

CNNfn

cnnfn_grabCNNfn was a U.S. cable television news network operated by Time Warner from December 29, 1995 to December 15, 2004. The network was dedicated to covering financial markets and business news.

It was available in a number of markets, including the U.S. and Australia. In Canada, much of its content screened on ROB TV (now BNN).

European Business Channel

European Business News

ebn_mediareportEuropean Business News(EBN) was a business news channel operated by Dow Jones and Flextech (now Virgin Media Television) prior to its merger with CNBC Europe.   Several presenters, who are currently still with CNBC in Europe, moved over to the entwork from EBN, the most notable of whom is Ross Westgate.   Like their counterparts in the Asia Pacific region at the time, both CNBC Europe and EBN struggled for enough of the market share to survive, and it became increasingly clear that pooling resources in the form of a merger would be the only way either would survive.  EBN struggled for content, and CNBC Europe struggled for distribution, something each other had.

Financial News Network

ImageThe Financial News Network was a business news channel broadcasting in the United States from 1981 until its merger with CNBC in 1991.

The channel began as an offshoot of original "business television" station KWHY in Los Angeles. FNN was based in nearby Santa Monica, California, with a studio in New York City. In November 1981, FNN opened operations in Florida with a bureau in Hollywood near Fort Lauderdale. This was done in association with its affiliate, WKID-TV, which had been airing its "Daily Market Report" since 1976.
