The time between the quake occurring and Bloomberg Television getting on the air to break the news is reported to be just 5 minutes, breaking the news at 12:51am ET.
The nearest news network to get on air with the story was CNN International, which broke the news at the top of their 1am ET bulletin, with CNN's Domestic output switching to a CNN International simulcast at 1:12am ET.
Fox News was some 18 minutes behind Bloomberg Television, breaking into their programming to report the news at 1:09am ET.
Lagging some way in the distance, was MSNBC who broke the story over an hour after the event, and around an hour behind the pack, at 1:59am ET.
